RE: How to test an antenna?

Thanks for all the great advice. Mine has the wall plate and the light does comes on when pushed. Sometimes it looks better when it is off. So I will test with my meter to see if I have 12 volts and maybe run a temporary line to be sure that the cable has not gone bad. I can pull another TV and test as well, if the first two tests are OK. Thanks again!

How to test an antenna?

How do I test an antenna for my television? My picture is really bad most everywhere I go. Not sure if it's the TV or antenna. Rotating the antenna does next to nothing. Raising and lowering the antenna does nothing either. Not sure if it's the cable, antenna or the booster thingee. What's a good way to test it? I have an ohm meter, if needed. Just need to know how and what results to look for. (not related to digital conversion that is coming soon)

RE: Got my Acer Aspire One

I'd love to have one but I already have four Acer's (2 laptops and 2 tablets) as well as 2 desktops (Dell & HP). I'd be dead meat if I got one. Acers are good units and support is pretty good as well. The size of this unit would be great for me to carry around. And as long as you got USB, you can hook anything to it. The next generation of that unit may have more options.

Huntsville Al. RV show is this weekend!

Heard that the RV show is this weekend at the VBC in Huntsville. Wonder who will be there this year with RVs to show? I've been thinking about getting rid of my 5er since it has three bunks and the kids are now too big. A nice new one with more living space would be great. Let me know what you've heard about the show. If the Huntsville show is weak then I may head to Chattanooga for their show (whenever that is).

RE: joe wheeler SP or Monte Sano SP Alabama

If you like the water, Joe Wheeler. If you like the the woods, Monte Sano. We love them both. Joe Wheeler - Eat at the lodge, play golf or ride a bike. I like loop "C" to be near the water. Look at your GPS for the short cut. Left at the McDonalds in Rogersville and then a right on a county road (I forgot the number. Might be CR610) and then left into the park. Monte Sano - Nice view from the overlook, good hiking areas. This time of the year, the backside has views of the city below. Take the route up Governors Dr. to Bankhead Pkwy. The other route has a hard turn and is not recommended for big RVs. We live a few miles from Monte Sano and it is our favorite place.

RE: Clearing water lines with air compressor

Drain the HW heater first. I open my low point drains and then I run up to 90 PSI but NOTE that I always have a valve or faucet open and it is in bursts and not constant pressure. After I do the low point drains, I do one faucet at a time. Then repeat it all. With two people it goes much faster. I can do it all in under five minutes. Run your 12 volt pump as well to be sure it is clear of water. Then check any water filters and outside faucets. Pink stuff in the drains and a little in the potty does not hurt. I tend to camp off and on all winter and this has worked well for me.

RE: Video Streaming Capture Software

I also use Pinnacle Studio (http://pinnaclesys.com) to edit and burn DVDs. I've used it for several weddings in our family, birthday videos, etc. I purchased the one with the breakout box to hook my VCR, etc up to to pull old videos and reburn them to DVD. It may be overkill for you but it is a good set of tools.

RE: GPS and Laptop Combination

MS sells two versions, one with a GPS and one without (for those who have one already). I recommend the one with a GPS. It is very small (1.5" x 2")and updates much faster. It connects via USB port, either directly or has a cable extension as well. Enjoy!

RE: Traveling to cold area this week, no tank protection

Put some water in your fresh water tank to use during the night. Unhook your water line hose, drain it good and then reconnect it, so your good to go in the morning. I've camped in pretty low temps. One time I did tape a few sheets of foamboard over the tanks, since we did not have full hookup. As others have said, the campground pipe might freeze but a hairdryer will take care of that. Run a small space heater to keep from using up so much LP gas. Cold weather camping can be fun!

RE: Dauphin Island, AL after Christmas??

If you go the Gulf Shores, take time and go over to the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. I go there EVERYTIME I go to Gulf Shores (semi-short distance). I’ve been about six times and each time there is something different and the place is spotless and most every item is indoors. Blue Angels may be flying overhead too! It’s on base but you can get in easy. Just tell them where you are going.web site. Go before 1PM cause it takes some time to go through it and they close at 5PM. If it was me...wish that it was..I'd go to Gulf Shores. They have a state park long the beach. I think the RV sites are just off the beach. Really nice eats near the Orange Beach side.

RE: Dauphin Island, AL after Christmas??

I agree. I go to DI because the kid's school goes there. Not sure that I would make it a destination for a whole weeks vacation. I love the fort there and the sunrise behind the fort is great. Some other things to do as well but there was no major eating places around when I was there last time. Great for two or three days but not a whole week.

RE: City water, fresh water connection

I use compressed air to purge my water lines. Just don't run the pressure real high. Open each faucet one at a time to purge the lines. Run your pump some as well to get the water out of your fresh tank, pump and lines. Keep the faucets open to relieve any pressure due to freezing and check any water filters. Put the pink stuff in the drains. Takes me about 10 minutes to do it all. Don't forget about the hot water heater drain as well. I believe that the city water line ties into the discharge line of the pump and the pump keeps it from back filling into the fresh water tank.

RE: Powerstroke help

Can you find someone local who has a chipper? The SuperChip unit that I have can read DTC codes.

RE: Help with DELL desktop question please

I'm just taking a SWAG at this but is the machine small in size? Could it be that she has a retail register machine PC that was used as part of a store cash register? If so, it will have another card with some odd connectors on it. And if so, I would just chunk it cause the video will be low end. In some of those units they block the connectors to keep people from hacking into them. Someone bought one from Ebay and it was a auto parts store PC. Real pain to get it to work cause the BIOS was locked.

RE: Help with DELL desktop question please

There should only be three types of connectors. 5pin din used by older IBM computers (AT computers), the 6pin Mini din connectors (also known as PS2 connection)used by more recent computers and USB connectors used by the most recent computers. USB is used by other types of devices as well. In older versions you may see a big 5pin din for the keyboard and the 6pin mini din used for the mouse. Newer mouses may come with the USB connection and a USB to mini din connection adapter as well. http://www.makebarcode.com/reviews/scanners/ps2sketch.html

RE: tricks on making bed in 5th wheeler

Slide the mattress. Or you could just flip it and make the headboard the foot. That way your hardest area would be tucked in already. :)

RE: Decals on front of RV

I replaced my decal a few weeks ago. You can do it yourself. My Keystone Cougar decals ran $100. It was worth it to me and took about 1.5hrs to peel, clean and reply the new decal. You could buy other decals or get someone to paint one for you but it most likely will cost you more. Best of luck.

RE: Installing Vista over XP?

There is a upgrade advisor tool that will show you if you can upgrade without issue. Be sure to look at the drivers for anything that you have installed, like camera software, bluetooth devices, webcams, printers, etc. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx I've run Vista on several systems, most without issue. There is some more overhead for Vista but you can use the settings to make it run better.
